Owned and lovingly run by the Holmes family, The White Lion is a beautifully renovated village pub offering a relaxed and welcoming place to eat, drink, celebrate and stay on the Isle of Wight.

Located in the picturesque village of Niton, on the southern side of the Island, we are surrounded by beautiful countryside, rolling hills and stunning coastline. Whether you are visiting for a special occasion, enjoying a weekend escape or simply exploring the Island, The White Lion makes the perfect base from which to discover everything this beautiful part of the Isle of Wight has to offer.

Our six luxury bedrooms provide a comfortable and stylish place to stay, allowing you to enjoy a delicious meal, relax with a drink and then retire upstairs without having to worry about the journey home.

Food and hospitality are at the heart of what we do. From carefully created menus and special dining experiences to a perfectly poured local ale, a glass of wine or simply a hot drink and a catch-up with friends, there is always a warm welcome waiting at The White Lion.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Room is very very comfortable. Showed up at 6pm on a Monday. Although closed no problem getting in. Local business owners/pub owners helped. Bloody marvellous!
Location - i wanted peace and quiet and tonight and tomorrow I'll have it in bucket loads. Went to the post office across the road for a drink or two. Minny who owns/runs it is awesome. Made to feel so welcome. Bought some snacks from the convenience store barely 2 minute walk away. A gorgeous location if you want peace and quiet on a Monday and Tuesday night. I'm loving it. Just what the doctor ordered. I'll be back.

Verified Excellent pub stay, local produce, highly recommend.

☺The staff were all friendly and accommodating on arrival and throughout our stay. The breakfast was amazing and a good variety of items, all from local producers. Our evening meal was excellent, again all food from local producers. The room was clean, bed comfy with a powerful shower, Nespresso coffee maker, tea making facilities, bottles of still and sparkling water, biscuits. A nice touch with the chocolate on the made up bed. The stairs are steep leading up to the rooms, but just one flight. Would highly recommend and will be making a return visit.

Verified ☺Great staff. Good location with plenty of parking. Excellent food. Good sized room. Very good shower.

☹Matress very soft (I know its subjective) so I didn't sleep well. Room was right above the bar and front entrance so quite noisy until the bar had closed.

Verified Superb roasts
The White Lion gets better and better. The Sunday roasts are superb. The meats are beautifully cooked, always succulent and never overcooked. The roast potatoes are exceptional and all the vegetables are perfectly cooked. Very, very tasty. The puddings are home made and simply delicious. The staff are brilliant, all so friendly and all so good at what they do.

Verified Best sticky toffee pudding
We had a lovely lunch on the 15th of January 2026. The staff were great, and very helpful, the food was perfect, excellent fish and chips, great service, hot food, well stocked bar. We had dessert and the sticky toffee pudding was the best that my husband has ever had. Lovely atmosphere and a welcoming clean environment. We will definitely return very soon.

Verified An excellent stay on a round the island trip.
We stayed one night at the White Lion during a round the island cycle trip and couldn't fault our stay. Our accommodation was clean, tidy and comfy, the big bath was great too. We had a lovely evening meal in the pub and a great quality breakfast the next morning. Special mention to the excellent, friendly staff who made the stay an enjoyable one, in particular Archie who helped us store our bikes in the cellar and gave us lots of useful information about the island.

Verified Outstanding, very enjoyable.
This place was very welcoming with plenty of parking & what a lovely clean room I stayed in, actually the whole place was very clean. Had a comfy bed, a good nights sleep & the room was well equipped, just what I needed for my 1 night stay. Very good value for money. Breakfast was perfect with a good selection on the menu. Went back for lunch which was amazing & very good service. I felt the food was value for money & the quality was excellent. I will stay here next time I am visiting as I couldn't fault anything. Would recommend.

Verified Ok pub meal in the centre of Niton
We were staying in Niton over the Easter weekend and this pub was recommended to us so we booked. We arrived to a weak welcome and were shown to a table in the bar area rather than the restaurant. I would have thought having booked in advance they would have given us a table in the restaurant area rather than a noisy bar area. The food was ok but a little disappointing as we were told it was nice. The fish and chips were made from what seemed to be a small pre frozen portion, hmmm. The crab bruschetta was nice and my wife’s steak pie was well filled, portions were rather small and the food wasn’t very hot. I advised that it was my wife’s birthday on the booking and no peep of recognition of the special day for us. To be honest it was ok but not the best, much better restaurants in Sandown and Shanklin not too much of a drive.

It was great here, then not so good but now it’s back to being very enjoyable. The food is good pub grub in a lovely atmosphere. The service is exceptional and families and friends are very welcome. The pub has open spaces and cosy spaces to suit all. The wines/beers are plentiful. An easy place to eat and relax

Very good food with friendly and attentive service from the start to end and a goats cheese starter easily the best ever tasted with a chilled bottle of white from the menu. Relaxed atmosphere and evidently happy diners made a dog friendly family dinner a very pleasant evening

Whilst staying in Niton we came here 4 times! This was simple because the food was delicious and the staff were so friendly. I have a nut allergy and they were so helpful, no question or enquiry was to much bother. I have the liver twice and it was the best liver dinner I have ever had!!

Verified Comfortable stay in a little village pub.
Nice stay in a country pub, excellent breakfast and friendly staff. Comfortable bed and shower room, unfortunately no remote control in the room for the TV but staff gave us one from another room. Enjoyed both our evening meal and breakfast. The village is quiet and there isn't much locally, but it's great for walking and the countryside. You would definitely need a car if you stay here.
